Cute picture of the day

Meet the gribble, a tiny marine bug that loves munching wood. Some scientists in the UK believe that it could help them to produce biofuels from wood and straw.

I love the idea of a gribble swimming pool that produces biofuel and would ultimately save the planet.

But the main idea here is to recreate the enzyme that our little friend produce in its guts to digest wood. This would allow scientists to easily extract cellulose which could be used later on to make biofuel.

If you want to learn more about biofuel and how they are produced, check this.

I wonder how it would work. Chuck a load of straw into a vat full of gribbles and salty water?

I bet willow and straw taste pretty good after a lifetime of gnawing on piers.

Could we all have a gribble pond in our back yard where we put in our garden waste and get out the fuel to heat our homes?
