The world's fastest electric motorbike

Here's something for the environmentally-conscious speedfreak. Mission One is a rather beautiful 150-mph electric motorbike. Unveiled in California last week, the prototype bike runs on lithium-ion batteries, just like mobile phones, and has zero exhaust pipe emissions.

I guess this just proves that there really is no excuse for motorbikes (and hopefully soon cars) to be spewing out greenhouse gases. All that's needed now is for uptake amongst consumers and I guess that wont happen until prices become competitive. How much does it cost?

They haven't disclosed the price yet, but it'll be available to customers in the US next year. Charging up the bike's battery with electricity will result in carbon emissions, but I don't know how it compares to burning petrol.

According to the Guardian piece it's £92,000! OUCH! I wont be getting one anytime soon.

And they can only go 150 miles before they need recharging.

If you charge your bike from a renewable electricity source then it won't result in any emissions.

I think this bike will not harm the environment around us because it is charged with electricity and does not require fuel.

Do they mention how long it takes to recharge? Having to recharge every 150miles isn't too bad, but if it takes 6 hours to do it then it's a massive problem.

2 hours

Again, according to the Guardian piece it's 2 hours. I guess that's not so bad but no good for a long distance journey.

How far away is the possibility of hydrogen fuel cells? And are they the answer to all our problems?
